Dr. Ashok N. Johari

Dr. Ashok N. Johari is a Pediatric Orthopaedic and Spine Surgeon connected with the B. J. Wadia Hospital for Children, Sir J. J. Hospital, Bombay Hospital, Lilavati Hospital, Nanavati Hospital and a host of private hospitals in Mumbai.

After a brilliant post-graduate career in orthopaedics, Dr. Johari started specializing in pediatric orthopaedics since early 1980s. He had further exposure in this field in different countries. He started a pediatric orthopaedic unit at one of the city’s medical colleges in mid 1980s and then went on for specialized pediatric orthopaedics practice including pediatric disabilities and spinal deformities in addition to routine pediatric orthopaedics.

Dr. Johari is the President and Founder Secretary of the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of India (POSI). He spearheaded the pediatric movement in India leading to the formation of the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of India in 1994. Dr. Johari is also the current President of the Indian Academy of Cerebral Palsy (IACP) and past President of the Indian Orthopaedic Association (IOA).

Dr. Johari has a number of distinctions, fellowships, awards and numerous papers, publications to his credit. He has conducted many workshops on pediatric orthopaedics, spinal deformities, cerebral palsy, spasticity management, use of botulinum and on surgery in cerebral palsy. He is a fellow member of American Academy of Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Medicine and is an Active Fellow of the Scoliosis Research Society and was awarded its prestigious International Traveling Fellowship. Dr. Johari has the distinction of being the Editor-In-Chief of the prestigious international journal, the Journal of Pediatric Orthopaedics (B). He is also an Editorial Board Member of the Journal of Orthopaedic Science and the Journal of Children’s Orthopaedics.

Dr. Johari is a pioneer and innovator in many fields of Orthopaedics and his contributions have been duly recognized. He is also the Program Director of a fellowship in Pediatric Orthopaedics, Spinal Deformities and also in Cerebral Palsy run at his centre. His current research interests include use of Botulinum in the second decade and below the age of 3 years, surgery in neglected Cerebral Palsy patients and spinal deformities in growing spine.

Dr. Usha A. Johari

Dr. Usha A. Johari is an Ophthalmic Surgeon practising in Mumbai since 25 years. She is qualified from Bangalore Medical College and Minto Ophthalmic Institute at Bangalore.

Dr. Mrs. Johari is attached to BCJ General Hospital, Santacruz, Hiranandani Hospital, Powai and Radhibai Hospital, Mahim and has her private consulting room and nursing home at Mahim. Dr. Mrs. Johari has attended and performed several eye operations in camps for underpriviledged population of the country. She has also attended several conferences and workshops in the country and abroad.

Dr. Mrs. Johari has had extensive experience of cataract surgery while working at the Minto Ophthalmic Hospital which is a Regional Institute of Ophthalmology and The Bowring & Lady Curzon Hospital in Bangalore. By her visits abroad she has striven hard to widen her knowledge in the field of ophthalmology.

In 1987 Dr. Mrs. Johari visited Moscow Research Institute of Eye Surgery and acquired first hand knowledge of Radial Keratotomy and Intraocular Implant Surgery. In 1989 by visiting the Moorfields Eye Hospital, London and St. Pauls Eye Hospital, Liverpool, she has added to her knowledge of new techniques of Keratoplasty and Intraocular Implant Surgery using foldable lens. In 1998 she visited Paris and observed new techniques of Glaucome Surgery.

Dr. Mrs. Johari was awarded the Life Fellowship and Gold Medal 2004 for Eye Care by Testimony of Honour Special Executive Magistrates Society, Mumbai. Dr. Mrs. Johari was a honorary lecturer at the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Bombay for the F. C. P. S. and D. O. M. S. Courses and the SNDT Womens College, Juhu for Optometry students. She was an examiner at SNDT University, Mumbai.
